"Stille Nacht (Silent Night)"

German folk carol from 1818 by Joseph Möhr (lyrics) and Franz Grüber (music). This was always a family favorite when we gathered around the piano to sing carols at Christmastime. I did double duty on piano and soprano, my mother sang alto, my uncle was on tenor, and my stepfather sang bass. Here I opted for a more simple two-part harmony, and a very light touch on the keyboard arrangement. I've never liked this song performed as some grandiose anthem/aria. The same holds true for "Cantique de Noël."
